"The Sheriff of Cochise" Mobil gas station giveaway in 1957.“SHERIFF OF COCHISE”

“The Sheriff of Cochise” starring John Bromfield was a syndicated contemporary western set in Cochise County, Arizona, near Tucson. It starred Bromfield as Sheriff Frank Morgan with his deputies Stan Jones (Olson) and Roy Engel (Dave). Syndication of the series began in September 1958. In the fall of ‘58  Sheriff Morgan was promoted to “U. S. Marshal”. In total, the two series ran for 156 episodes (78 episodes apiece).

Oddly, only one comic book was issued in 1957 on the series and it was a Mobil gas station 20 page giveaway with excellent art by Kurt Schaffenberger. Schaffenberger (1920-2002) is best known for his work at Fawcett on CAPTAIN MARVEL and Marvel Family comics. With the demise of Fawcett he moved to DC where he drew Superman family comics, especially LOIS LANE.
